BUILDING A SIMPLE BIOFUEL TANK

Step 1: Prepare Biofuel Tanks

For our project, we used both 20L and 30L plastic tanks with removable screw-on caps.

Step 2: Assemble biofuel tank cap

Drill a hole in the cap the size of the nozzle screw and insert the nozzle into the cap with the rubber seals as shown in the image. Fasten the nozzle with a screw nut. There are multiple ways one can do this, but this was the method we decided on.

Step 3: Connect Gas Outlet

We used gas grade tubing for the gas outlet. Fasten the tubing onto the nozzle head using a clamp nozzle to avoid leakage.

Step 4: Create manure mixture

For the manure mixture, we used 1/2 parts water and 1/2 parts fresh manure.

Step 5: Funnel manure into biogas tank

Using a large industrial funnel, we poured the manure only 1/3 of the way into the biogas tank. Filling it all the way means that there is no room for the gas to expand.

Step 5: Wait for manure to methane process to occur

After fastening completed caps with gas outlets on the biogas tanks, wait for 21 days for the process to complete.

Step 6: Connect gas outlet

Connect gas outlet onto a gas stove for a sustainable kitchen!
